Shutdown Notices

Notices are both emailed and hand-delivered to your property and placed on your gate or on your door prior to the water being shut off in your area for repairs.

Types of Shutdowns

You will note that there are two kinds of shutdowns that we perform:

  • Emergency Shutdown
  • Scheduled Shutdown

Emergency Shutdown

This type of shutdown occurs when there is an unscheduled water leak. This may be a fire hydrant that has been knocked down by a vehicle or a broken water main in the street, or as simple as a water meter or service line to name a few examples. When these leaks are reported, our crews respond as quickly as possible to shut the water off and make the necessary repairs. The water needs to be shut off as soon as possible to reduce any chance of personal injury and property damage. You can be assured that the crews are working as efficiently as possible to restore your water service in a safe and timely fashion.

Scheduled Shutdown

When we plan a water repair that will require us to shut the water off to make the necessary repair or improvement to the water system, we will notify you at least 48 hours in advance of the water being turned off. This allows you time to adjust your lifestyle for the period that you will be without water.

Notice

Notices for both emergency and scheduled water shutdowns read as follows:

Dear Resident:

Your water service will be temporarily shut off on Day, Month, Year, from approximately Time until Time to allow a utility contractor to complete a Type of Work Being Performed  in your area. The actual duration of the shut-off will depend on the conditions encountered. Once the work has been performed, your water service will be restored. Please note that the water may be discolored after the water service is restored but should clear up in a short time period. If it does not clear up, please contact the AVHCWD emergency lines at (760) 524-2037 and (760) 524-2038 for further assistance. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
